Surfboard Care

The Hard, shiny  fiberglass material from which your surfboard is finished is very durable when being ridden in the water. However, when out of the water the surface can become as delicate as your gramma's china, so here are some hints to make it last as long as possible:

1. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight is public enemy #1. When you're done riding, put your board in the shade. Store it in a garage or on a shaded porch, not lying on the back lawn. If you own a board bag, USE it. You will notice soon enough, if your board has been in the sun to long because the foam will begin to turn from white to yellow. Plus your wax will keep melting.

2. Try to keep your board in it's bag as much as possible. If you don't have a board bag, you might want to consider getting one, they can increase a boards life considerably. There also many different types ranging from socks to hard cases.

3. Don't ride right into shore, there are fins to consider and if you ride into the sand you will snap them off.

4. Rinse off your board with fresh water after every use. It is very important to get all the salt off.

5. Don't leave  your board where animals can get to it, especially dogs. They think it's a big toy an tear the heck out of it. No kidding.

6. Don't leave your board where theives can get to it. For some reasons surfboards get stolen often. Watchout.

7. When transporting boards, put the whole board inside the vehicle or on top of the vehicle. Try to avoid having your boards stick out. If this is not possible, make sure they are not on the opposing traffic side. This can cause a real mess.

8. If you are into keeping your board in good shape and making sure it always rides its fastest, you can apply Ultra Glide to it. It's just like waxing a snowboard but without wax.

9. It is a good idea to keep your board in top shape. Really good thing to do if you plan to sell it. This means cleaning it once in a while. To get that mess of wax off, you can use a wax comb, then use a wax remover such as X-wax. This is also really good to get tar off. If you want to go all out, you can also polish your board with a polish such as Gel-Gloss or Ultra Glide.
